Londoners are happier to live in high-density areas than was previously believed, a study from London School of Economics has revealed.

Of 1500 people surveyed in five densely populated London wards, 60% named crime and vandalism, parking problems and noise pollution as bigger problems than the close proximity to other people.

Those questioned saw benefits to high-density areas too, with 54% attracted by the better transport links offered in these areas.

The report, which was published on Monday, says planners should back the idea of “life-time” homes. This states that there should be homes of a variety of sizes in an area so households do not have to leave the locality as their needs change.

Locating crowded developments in areas within 10 to 15 minutes of large parks was also recommended.
