The court battle to decide whether deputy prime minister John Prescott can stay in his trade union-owned flat could rumble on into next year.
Transport union the RMT was due to go to court on Wednesday to evict Prescott. However, a source said the hearing was postponed to give Prescott more time to prepare his case.

The RMT wants to convert the building into three five-bedroom units for low-paid workers and people nominated by Lambeth council in south London.

The postponement of the court case could delay the building work, which had been set to begin in the new year.

The two sides are agreeing a new date for the hearing but a source said it might not take place until next year.

Spokesmen for both the RMT and the ODPM, said the issue was a private matter between the union and Prescott.
