By 2023, experts anticipate the economy will create an additional 142,000 new jobs in science, research and engineering. All sciences, and particularly the applied sciences, are experiencing massive growth, and the design and development of spaces must anticipate these needs. The way scientists work is changing, and so must their environments, which include cutting-edge buildings – from venture-backed collaborative labs to virtual research communities – that encourage multidisciplinary co-operation and outreach to the wider community.
