I couldn’t agree more with Keith Exford’s comments about the operating cost index (28 January, page 18).
The index is hampered by a flawed methodology in calculating the predicted operating cost for each unit, which for the specialist housing associations ranges from £3.5K to £61K.
In our own case, for example, if the specialist registered social landlords had been ranked according to actual costs, Advance would have been ranked 19th rather than 37th. As a specialist support provider we are very willing to assist the Housing Corporation in its performance so that next year’s figures start making sense.
