Sylvania offers a solution to maintaining fire ratings in ceiling lighting with its Coolfit downlighter.
Changes to the Building Regulations have raised the issue over maintaining fire ratings of ceilings when downlighters are installed.
Standard dichroic lv lamps risk overheating fire-rated downlights as they project heat backwards. The body is sealed with only small vents, so this heat can potentially build up to such a degree that the surrounding intumescent material will be activated, sealing the base of the downlight and leading to premature lamp failure.
To counter this, Sylvania has updated its Coolfit 12 V halogen lamp. This is designed to project heat and light out of the downlight, removing these issues. Coolfit can replace most 12 V, 50 mm dichroic MR16 lamps. Three outputs are offered: 50 W in Coolfit 50 Home; plus 20 and 35 W in Coolfit 50 Superia long life.
