Conway Security Products has supplied pan and tilt units and camera housings for the Dublin Port Tunnel. One of the largest civil engineering projects undertaken in Europe in recent times, the tunnel is designed to connect the famous Port with the M1 Express Motorway.
The Dublin Port Tunnel is approximately 4.5 km long, consisting of 2.5 km of twin-bored tunnel connecting shorter lengths of cut-and-cover tunnel to an interchange at the aforementioned M1. On the southern end the road will connect via a bridge over the River Tolka through a toll plaza.
The camera units specified for the Dublin project can operate with a maximum load of 16 kg (18 kg on side mount), and have pan and tilt speeds of six degrees and three degrees per second respectively.
Pre-sets are available, and there are internal stops to prevent tampering. At the Dublin tunnel they are being used in conjunction with Bosch cameras and 6-90 mm Kowa lenses.
Tunnel engineers are also benefiting from ECV having specified Conway’s all-aluminium weatherproof housings which feature a self-parking wiper unit and screen heater/de-mister. These features are essential in such an environment, where fumes, dust and fluctuating temperatures can make exceptional demands on any surveillance systems installed.
