Good news then. The ECA has purchased Elecsa, a joint venture by Fensa and the BBA (BBA is the UK member of UEAtc), from the GGF.

This is a Part P competent persons scheme authorised by the DCLG. Of course it had to happen: the ECA just loves using initials to confuse people! I know I’m getting a little senile, but how and why was the double glazing industry (GGF) ever allowed to set up an electrical self-certifications scheme in the first place?

I suppose the fact that the ECA missed the boat by not originally setting up its own scheme has nothing to do with anything. Or the fact that, following the acquisition, it can now offer ECA membership to the 2500 existing Elecsa companies. Who said it was all about money?

Anyway, enough of acronyms, well not quite. I’m sure all EMC readers will by now have rushed to the IET website to read and comment on the 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations. Remember, they are published in January 2008, and your comments will make all the difference. Yeah right. We all know that there is a warehouse somewhere with a big pile of 2008 Regs Books already printed, just sat there gathering dust.

Oh dear, all these decades in the electrical contracting industry seem to have made me very cynical, but I’m sure that your readers will put me right.
