Spring 2008 saw the opening of Grand Arcade, a £120 m shopping centre in Wigan.

The centre’s lighting scheme was designed by Concord Lighting, with NRN Design and Operon. The main lighting feature is an LED sculpture, dubbed the Exploding Atom, which is suspended in the central atrium. Concord produced the 4.6 metre-wide light; installation was by Balfour Kilpatrick.
