10:40AM £17m scheme will transform cinema into mixed-use complex

Consultancy Concept is to project manage the first phase of a £17m Leicester city centre scheme. The project will transform the GS Picture House, an old ABC cinema at Belgrave Gate in the middle of the city's main shopping area, into a nine-storey mixed use development.

The scheme will include 35,000 sq ft of retail accommodation, 60 apartments, a 100-bedroom hotel and a 42,000 sq ft casino, subject to planning consent.

Work begins on the scheme in autumn with the demolition of the cinema and the construction is scheduled to be finished by summer 2008.

The developer is GS Fashions. Mandeep Singh, senior manager at GS Fashions, said: "We chose Concept to project manage the first phase of this development because it has an excellent pedigree when it comes to mixed use schemes. Concept's work in Nottingham has been superb and we're sure its involvement will ensure we complete this high profile project in our city on time, on budget and to an extremely high standard."
