Your article was brought to me by one of my surveyors – or should I call him a salesperson? The surveyor said "Look at this, it could have been written by you!"

Sure enough, when I read the article I agreed. Everybody I speak to is now not complying with regulations. Even though they will state for the record that they are, the truth is they are not. The reason for this is they have to make a living.

We have seen an 80 per cent drop in sales of intruder alarm systems.

The reason? We have been trying to do what is right or at least what we believe to be right. Everybody else has seen the dodge and gone for it, forcing others to follow.

We are now doing the same, because if we don't, then we will go out of business.

Who is to blame then? Well, I firmly believe the morons who have had occasion to change the standards in the way and manner it has been done. Agree or disagree, the industry is at a point of collapse. They are responsible and now should be made accountable.

The failure of equipment alone has cost our company thousands of pounds to sort out and no compensation can come anywhere near to the point that re-establishes your credibility as a company when the person you were chosen over is not fitting a compliant system and simple does not care.

They are not fitting the new equipment and are experiencing no problems. Fantastic isn't it? We are trying our best and being made to look like idiots. Are we isolated? The answer to this is No. Part 'P' has rendered the electrical industry into a similar – although not as bad – shambles.

I spoke to an electrician who could not register as Part 'P' because the issuing of the certificates would render him too expensive.

The word that covers all of this is pathetic.
