With the 2005/06 Premiership season drawing to a close so must the Pilkington Fantasy Football League, until August of course. Congratulations to Gavin Lewin of Anglian Windows, who collects the overall competition prize worth £2,000

Congratulations go to our two winners ‘Premier All Stars' and ‘We're Not From London You' with Gavin Lewin from Anglian Windows collecting the magnificent prize of a trip to a sporting event in the UK up to the value of £2,000. His team, We're not from London You, scored an incredible 1780 points.

Gavin, 27, is a massive Norwich fan and has been studying the league and fixtures all season to ensure he's ahead of the game. Commenting on his win he said ‘I'm absolutely thrilled that I won, and will be sharing the prize with Stuart Fleet, a colleague who won Manager of the Month in March. I'm a big sports fan, especially football and cricket, so I'll enjoy choosing the prize as well as the day itself.' He added, ‘I'll definitely be entering next season again, it's been great fun and my tactics seem to have worked well this season!'

Players that have formed the backbone of his side for most of the season were Chelsea's Reyna, Terry and Gallas, and Blackburn's Pederson was a permanent fixture from the off.

Gavin said: ‘Pederson has been the most reliable and the inspired choices would have to be Alan Curbishly and Lampard at the start of the season, and we put in Saha just as he went on his scoring streak. ‘I like to see what other people do, but I have to say I have tended to be a trend-setter. I don't make transfers until 4.55pm on a Friday, which most people started to do, also when I put in new players, a lot of other teams seem to have them about a week later.'

League champions

League champions for the 2005/06 season were Premier All Stars, headed up by Paul Hardy, an Engineer from the Pilkington, Cowley Hill factory in St Helens. A previous manager of the month award winner, Paul built his league winning side around a solid defence of Chelsea and Liverpool players who certainly came through for him.

Due to him being a Pilkington employee Paul was ineligible for the grand prize but the company are sorting out a consolation prize for him and Paul is delighted.

He said: ‘This was the first time I'd tried any kind of fantasy football game so to win in my debut season is fantastic. I'll definitely be playing it again next season.'

Matt Buckley, Marketing Director at Pilkington Building Products, said: ‘Our congratulations go to both of our winners and all the managers of the month throughout the season that have made this game such a success. It's been fantastic to see people from across the industry join together for our first Fantasy Football League, and I hope to see you all, and others, sign up next year to be in with a chance to win some fantastic prizes.'

April was the last opportunity to win the manager of the month award and ironically the brain behind Foolish United took home the £300 Marriott vouchers. Former Pilkington employee Aaron Peterson will soon be whisking a guest away for a weekend, and he says his success is all down to the Scousers.

The 28-year-old said: ‘The Liverpool players have been the best for me this season. ‘I had a hunch about them from the start and piled as many Scousers in as I could.'

If you're starting to feel the withdrawal symptoms of life without Fantasy Football, there's obviously the real World Cup to look forward to. An extra month of player scouting is in your hands.

Hopes for next season

Will Rooney be fit for August? Is Henry on his way to Barcelona? And which next foreign big thing will be making the move over to good old Blighty and the hard-tacking Premiership? Players maybe to look out for are Aaron Lennon of Spurs who after his recent performances looks to become a sure starter in every game. Now Crouch has got his scoring boots back on, maybe it's time to give him the nod, and for bargains newly promoted Reading and Sheffield United may have some cheap gems in their sides.

Top scoring players in the Fantasy League were John Terry, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry and Petr Cech. Henry, unsurprisingly, was the best striker scoring 188 points compared to ‘Ruud van Awol' who picked up 170 points. Frank Lampard was the best midfielder closely followed by Stevie Gerrard, and Liverpool defenders also racked up the points with their iron clad back line.

Whatever happens over the summer, one thing is for sure. The Pilkington Fantasy Football League will be back with a vengeance in August with prizes every month as well as a fantastic overall winners prize.
