National Trust’s stance is a matter of debate
In your article On the Move (22 March, page 22) you mention that Simon Jenkins and the National Trust are “charged to protect rural areas from development” but this, as a general statement, does not appear to be true.
The Trust does an excellent job of looking after many important buildings and areas of countryside and I have been a member for many years. I can find nothing though in its stated objectives about an anti-development role and it seems to me to be a misrepresentation to suggest, without much better evidence, that its 3.7 million members support such a stance.
