The RIBA president on Tweeting in taxis, never learning how to use a PC, and why we should support our local high street
What is your favourite website?
For great speakers I love Ted talks.
On energy advice matters I like Energy Savings Trust (for when I give advice to householders or kids in schools I direct them to this _ I also refer these as a hot tips to read on my #Ecocheckpack on Twitter).
What is your worst digital habit?
Emailing and Tweeting on my iPhone in a taxi late at night
Iphone / Blackberry / Android – which side are you on?
There is only one – my iPad is just the larger version of it.
Are you into social networking?
I’m on Linkedin and Facebook but mainly Twitter. I use my Tumblr for uploading easier to view images – I found it really useful to help manage my Twitter based T-Shirt competition (#printedarchitecture).
Who do you recommend to follow on Twitter?
So many. See my FF’s.
But in particular recommend the following: @WomenInArch; @BDonline; @RIBAJ; @BuildingNews; @openhouselondon; @RIAIOnline; @hughpearman; @MrGeorgeClarke; @STEMNET; @SaveBusStation; @ES_Coop; @chrisigloo; and @annaWinston.
What is your favourite app?
Flipboard because it opens weblinks in a tweet for you and is more visual.
What is your preferred means of communication?
I prefer face to face or where possible – meeting in person over a coffee, lunch or a drink for a personal pal or new business contact.
Skype or FaceTime can be useful for long distance calls or for round table meetings for working on projects that need discussions and drawings at same time
What did you last buy online?
I do my weekly grocery shopping online because I don’t have a car. I buy clothes on the High Street and never on line – I like to try them on and feel the quality, and to support my local high street. I’m against ordering online for convenience and laziness, even if it’s just buying a book – we’ve already lost too many book stores.
PC or Mac?
Please! Never learnt a PC and don’t even want to try!
Guilty pleasures: Most played tunes from iTunes/Spotify?
My indulgence is with the following:
I am Kloot – great band whatever your mood; Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; David Bowie; and Rory Gallagher.
I listen to them all full volume and paint pictures at speed to them! They’re not guilty secrets to me.
