Members of Glasgow’s fire service at the scene of the fire that tore through Glasgow School of Art last Friday.
The iconic building, designed by architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, lost the Mackintosh library, but the majority of the structure is intact – a fact attributed to firefighters who chose to fight the blaze from inside the building. Chief secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander is reported to have pledged that the UK government will make a “significant financial contribution towards the cost of rebuilding”.
