The item on the early publication of a report by the government on modern methods of construction (8 April, page 24) refers to a “kitemark” scheme that is to be developed for MMC.

It is difficult to understand how the government could consider “kitemarking” – even in quotes. By their very nature, MMC are required by developers and social housing providers to be flexible.

The British Board of Agrément has been awarding certificates for “building schemes” – as we have called them – for more than 20 years. These certificates show how building systems comply with relevant Building Regulations and give information on their performance in relevant key areas, such as insulation and structural stability – everything a designer needs to know.
