To deliver zero-carbon homes on the necessary scale within a decade, and to address the national housing crisis, we need mandatory national standards and implementation (13 April, page 13).

Major housebuilders may be unwilling to build to radically different standards, but our job as major suppliers of sustainable construction materials must be to grapple with the challenge and innovate. There can be no excuses when the necessary expertise, supply chain and stock are available.
