A big thank you to Gordon R. Beckman of John Portman & Associates in the US for our latest sketch
Thanks to Gordon R. Beckman, principal and design director for John Portman & Associates based in Atlanta, Georgia in the US, for sending this sketch. Accompanying the sketch, called Building Top Exploration, was the following description:
The design for One Charlotte was intended to be a striking addition to the Charlotte skyline and a luxury residence, offering 99 homes
“This was done for a project that ultimately did not get built. The project was One Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina. The design for One Charlotte was intended to be a striking addition to the Charlotte skyline and a luxury residence, offering 99 homes. The modern glass and metal building with its distinctive crown were designed to become a landmark in Charlotte.
“Charlotte, NC is known as ‘The Queen City’ and features a crown as the city symbol. Thus, the top (or crown) of the tower was quite important and several design explorations were done. This sketch is one of them.”
This is part of our new series where we want to tap into Building readers’ drawing talents and publish the best quick doodles that you send in.
