The crisis that the organisers in Delhi now face proves that without time and organisation, you will run the risk of things going wrong. With a building project on this scale there are always “unknowns” ready to pounce.

Thankfully, London and Glasgow are planning to complete construction months before the start of their games. In London and Glasgow there are also web cams so that progress can be monitored by the public.

The fact that London and Glasgow are planning to give each arena time to “bed down” and iron out any operational wrinkles ahead of the opening, will reassure everyone who is looking forward to 2012 and 2014.
