I read Paul Donnelly’s article (15 January, page 50) on expert witness testimony with interest

Paul’s main recommendation is to always use a witness who is an expert in the subject required.

May I suggest all parties should in the first instance approach their friendly neighbourhood trade association – reputable ones will always have a selection of independent, credible and disinterested experts “on tap” who can provide testimony, reports, statistics and more. The Technology and Construction Court should insist any expert used has had their bona fides checked by the relevant federation, thereby saving time, inconvenience and red faces all round.
