Can I set the record straight following your article about Lord Rogers and Birmingham (24 March)?

The regeneration of Eastside is very much on track. The plans for Martineau Galleries, which will be bigger than the Bullring, were approved by the council's planning committee last week. The Masshouse scheme is already under way and growing on the skyline. Last week we launched an international design competition for Birmingham's first city centre park for 125 years, and in the same week Roc International launched proposals for a £60m, 175 m tower that is set to become a stunning tourist attraction.

We are encouraged that the joint venture between Quintain and Countryside will bring forward another important development in conjunction with a major architectural practice. Ken Shuttleworth of Make is already designing major schemes in Birmingham such as The Cube and Digbeth coach station and he will weave the same magic on City Park Gate.
