Thank you for your most informative article on ageism in the workplace (29 September, page 44). I could not help but think that it was fortunate that it was published on 29 September and not after the new regulations came into force.

As a 59 year old who still manages his Canadian Air Force exercises daily and a weekly run, I did take (mild) exception to the comment of your interviewee who asked, “Would you really want to employ a 55 year old not in good health when you could have a 35 year old who was?” I do hope he wasn’t implying that all of us over-55s are incapable of employment because we suffer from poor health. I cannot, of course, comment on the health of many 35 year olds I know because I would now be caught by the new regulations!
