Having read your ConstructionSkills article (17 October, page 38), I would totally support the views of Mark Farrar.

The National Association of Shopfitters was one of the body’s biggest critics. There was nothing in it for us; we never got a fair return on the levy. But in the past three years members of the National Association of Shopfitters have had a 16% increase in levy returned. That happened because we got engaged.

I wish that people would stop throwing stones at ConstructionSkills and get engaged too: they are quite a good bunch of people when you bother to get to know them.

The Cross Industry Construction Apprenticeship Taskforce, which is supported by ConstructionSkills, is serious about sorting out apprenticeships. This is a gathering of the great and good of the industry. Open your eyes, stop standing on the touchline throwing brickbats and get engaged – you may just be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. The National Association of Shopfitters and its membership certainly are.
