I have worked as a QS, mainly in private practice, for 21 years now. Maybe I am a little sceptical.

I understand there is a skills shortage but your article “Put this job on your CV and it’ll set you up for life” (16 February, page 58) implies that all you need to do to succeed is work on a large project.

I worked on a measured-term contract early in my career, on numerous small projects and this taught a great deal more than when I worked on large projects, although this was after I had qualified.

The “get it now” ethos isn’t teaching anyone the right way. Perhaps you could publish a similar article on how putting a job on your CV ruined careers – Scottish parliament, Wembley, Bath Spa ...
