In response to A R Ferguson (‘Socket to ‘em', EMC, Feb, p5), if he believes that the ECA has a monopoly in compiling and implementing amendments to the Wiring Regulations then he is sorely mistaken.

The ECA is but a cog in a wheel and is sometimes a lone voice in trying to get changes implemented in the most practical way. Its efforts are assisted by a technical power committee made up from representatives of contracting organisations.

If the correspondent and his "old boys" believe that they can better influence the changes driven by Europe and the rest of the world then let them make a practical contribution rather than sniping from the sidelines. I would relinquish my seat on the committee in favour of a candidate who can do better.
