Well at last the big day is here – 31 March 2004, amendments to BS 7671 and new harmonised colours. Hallelujah, brothers and sisters, a new beginning.

Alas no! It’s still the same old crap. Why do folks sit in dark rooms conjuring up these amendments to which only a handful of us ever pay attention.

This has to be the worst run industry. Manufacturers, the NICEIC and ECA have all spent many thousands of pounds on literature and promotion. But there’s one slight problem – has anybody remembered to make the bloody stuff? I’ve not as yet managed to find anybody that’s keeping any of the new colours on the shelf. Every time I ask, I am told it is going to take about three months to get it and you do not have to use it until 2006.

What’s going on? Does no one understand that it’s time to move on? Mind you, I suppose B&Q will be the first to stock it!
