I write to your publication to request research into Scottish Local Authority recognition of the Chartered Institute of Building and Member Professional Status.
I have been employed as a building surveyor within the Scottish Local Authority Environment for almost 20 years, and have recently passed my professional interview to become a corporate member of the CIOB. However my employers, Inverclyde Council, do not recognise the CIOB as a Professional Institute (in the same light as the RIBA,CIBSE, ICE or RICS ) which is most frustrating.
I am aware that certain other Local Authorities within Scotland do recognise the CIOB as an Institute of Professional Status (Glasgow and Edinburgh City Councils, for example), and would welcome this question being raised in CM.
There does appear to be a measure of apathy from senior officials within the Scottish Branch regarding this. And what exactly is the perception of the CIOB within the industry as a whole?
