The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is looking for engineers to act as mentors in its new Mentoring Programme launching in March.

The CIC is looking for practitioners from the engineering sector, including mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineers, to volunteer to become mentors to young people aged 14-19 within the Newham area of London.

The programme aims to raise awareness of the choices of careers available to students, to raise their aspirations and improve their academic performance. Mentors and mentees will have meetings at the student’s school or college, and be given the opportunity to share information and knowledge.

According to the CIC, the demand has been so high they are in need of more volunteers to join the programme.

The Mentoring Programme was developed in partnership with the CIC, Newham Education Business Partnership and the London Borough of Newham, and is to launch on 12 March.

Mentors and mentees will have regular meetings at the students’ school or college where they will share knowledge and information which, will enhance the student’s work-based learning and further develop their practical and academic understanding of their chosen career of interest.
