Institution secretary and Chief Executive Richard John has resigned. He joined the Institution in 1998 following Andrew Ramsay's move to the Engineering Council.
Richard John is widely credited with revitalising the Institution, improving membership recruitment and successfully unblocking the backlog of publications and technical guidance. The prestige of the Institution has also been raised.

"After making great progress with the CIBSE I have decided to seek new opportunities elsewhere" said John, who added that he will remain in the CIBSE hot seat until a successor can be found. A handover is not thought likely until October or November this year.
