Under National Working Rule 12 of the JIB for the electrical contracting industry, there are three days of public holiday over the Christmas and New Year period. These are Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 December and Monday 1 January.

Employees who work on these dates will be paid double time for Christmas Day and time and a half for Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. The employee will also be due an alternative day’s holiday at normal JIB rates at a time agreed by both parties.

The rules of the JIB’s holidays with pay scheme provide that seven of the 22 days of annual leave are taken in winter. Therefore, sites operating under the Construction Industry Joint Council’s agreements are expected to close at the end of the day on Friday 22 December and reopen on Monday 8 January 2007.
