Chocolate blocks: These photos of Bournville Village Trust homes were taken during the Second World War by German photographer Bill Brandt. The trust commissioned Brandt to photograph conditions in its newly built properties. The photos appear in a new book, Homes Fit for Heroes: Photographs by Bill Brandt 1939-43, by Peter James and Richard Sadler. Bournville Village Trust was set up by George Cadbury in 1900 to manage the Bournville estate, a village for the employees of his factory. The Birmingham Library stored the images.
