E J Moore must strike a chord with most of us tired and weary electrical contractors. Most of us strive to trade to the best of our ability and join either the NICEIC or ECA to give us a further ‘responsibility’. In these times of legislation, risk assessment, Part this that and the other, incomprehensible tax and employment laws and our old favourite political correctness, we need all the help we can get.
Granted, the ECA and NICEIC have considerable technical and legal backup to advise us but it seems to me that the master/servant relationship has become reversed. Are not these bodies there to do what we (the customer) asks them to do? Not so, it seems, although I can only base my opinions on my ECA membership.
We now have the ECA wanting to allow labour agencies to join their ranks, hoping that this will allow ‘agency operatives to have the same skills as normal JIB operatives’. Hmmm. I detect a very strong smell of male cow manure here. I don’t suppose it’s got anything to do with the fat fees that the already overwealthy ECA will receive from allowing agencies to join?
It’s easy to see why the electrical contracting industry has lost faith in their two premier organisations. Maybe its time somebody started one that did what we wanted.
