Changes have been made to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002. As of April 2005, the new COSHH 2004 will introduce the following measures:

    requirements to observe eight principles of good practice, for the control of exposure to substances hazardous to health;
  • workplace exposure limits (WELs) for substances hazardous to health. These will replace the previous system of maximum exposure limits (MELs) and occupational exposure limits (OELs);
  • a duty to review control measures beyond plant and equipment, including systems of work and supervision, at suitable intervals.
