The new buildings that house the City of London Academy are truly impressive. Built with a contribution of £2 million from the City of London Corporation, the teaching facilities, assembly rooms, sports halls, dance and drama studios, dining rooms and teachers’ accommodation buildings are all fully-equipped with the latest in technology.

CCTV

Creating a safe and secure environment for students and staff at the Academy’s City and Southwark-based locations – in tandem with the need to detect and deter acts of theft and/or vandalism – is necessarily a high priority, thus specialist solutions provider PEL Systems was called in to advise on, design and install an integrated protection regime.

In conjunction with the end user, PEL Systems’ technical manager Dave Barnhurst specified 50 Vicon CCTV cameras, locating them at strategic intervals around the Academy. Day/night cameras are installed externally to cope with variable lighting conditions while high resolution colour cameras keep track of events inside the buildings.

Images generated by all cameras are networked via one of six Vicon Kollector Pro digital video recorders located in the Academy’s Control Room.
