Firm only the second construction company to have won the corporate responsibility award
Wates has won a prestigious Prince Charles-backed award for its sustainability and community work.
The family-owned contractor is only the second construction firm to win Company of the Year in the 14-year history of the annual Business in the Community awards.
Lakehouse picked up the example for excellence award for skills in the workplace and Lend Lease won in the work inclusion category for their work supporting people from excluded groups into employment.
Wates chief executive Paul Drechsler said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious accolade. Corporate responsibility and sustainable business practices have always been a core part of the Wates’ ethos, which is summarised in our mantra: to make a lasting difference in the communities where we work.
Carillion won the Company of the Year accolade in 2003.
