Competition stimulates debate on how abandoned land could be transformed for more productive uses
The RIBA has extended the deadline for registration for its London and Sheffield Forgotten Spaces 2011 ideas competition. The new registration deadline is 13 April with final submissions required by 12 May.
Open to entrants across the country and with cash prizes of up to £5,000, the competition asks artists, architects, planners, engineers, landscape designers, students and local groups to suggest designs and proposals for an imaginative new use for a ‘forgotten space’ anywhere in London.
The RIBA in London has now confirmed a new partnership with Design for London on the competition. The design body joins Qatari Diar and Ordnance Survey as sponsors in the capital.
The RIBA in Yorkshire is working in association with Sheffield Hallam University and the Sheffield competition is being sponsored by developers British Land, Creative Sheffield, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and engineers Buro Happold.
Forgotten Spaces aims to stimulate debate about how abandoned pieces of land might be turned to more productive or attractive uses.
The competition brief and workshop booking details are available at RIBA.
