Employers in Engineering and Construction sectors are currently among the UK’s most active recruiters
The engineering and construction sector is one of the economy’s most active recruiters, according to a report released this week.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG Report on Jobs reveals that last month permanent roles across the private sector as a whole increased at their fastest rate in 10 months, while temporary billings showed more growth than since May 2007.
Bernard Brown, partner and head of business services at KPMG said: “Employers in the IT and Computing and Engineering and Construction sectors are again those most actively recruiting. This might be an indication that a private sector led recovery is indeed under way.”
However, the authors of the report highlighted the accompanying erosion of the public sector workforce.
“The UK now has a two-speed labour market,” said Kevin Green, Chief Executive of REC.
“The private sector continues to hire in increasing numbers while the public sector is shedding jobs. This is highlighted in the latest Report on Jobs which reports that the nursing, medical and care sectors have significantly declined from a year ago.”
