Organisations that have signed up to CIBSE's 100 Days of Carbon Clean-up campaign, which began on 5 June, have received a copy of TM22 as part of their campaign pack. They will use the guide to fill out their return forms and provide a record of how much energy they save over the 100 days.

The TM22 publication assesses a building's actual energy consumption per unit floor area, and other aspects of performance, against established benchmarks from CIBSE Guide F. This approach improves the level of understanding of building and system performance and reduces the time taken to complete an assessment while providing a highly effective way of introducing feedback into the design, construction, and evaluation process. It offers three different options for carrying out the assessment procedure;

Option A: Simple building assessment of the actual CO2 emissions per unit floor area based on the metered energy use of a building of a single type with no more than two energy supplies (electricity and fossil fuel).

Option B: General building assessment of the actual CO2 emissions per unit floor area based on the metered energy use of a building or site which can have zones of different types and non-standard occupancy and energy uses.

Option C: Systems assessment against benchmarks for the building systems

As well as being used as part of the 100 Days campaign, TM22 is also aimed at facilities managers, energy managers and building owners. This assessment is vital in tracking the progress of carbon-cutting initiatives and also includes a spreadsheet implementation of the method on disk.
