CIBSE has launched a competition to develop plans to cut carbon emissions from its Balham headquarters.
The competition, which is open to building services engineers, students and other professionals, aims to cut the building's emissions by 60%.

"Achieving 60% carbon emissions reduction will not be easy and will require some innovative thought," says John Field, competition chairman. The headquarters is a large Victorian building with a more modern annexe – similar to many of the buildings used as offices throughout the country.

Students reaching the shortlist will be teamed-up with a major building services consultancy for help with the calculations and detailed planning necessary.

March 2004 is the deadline for proposals. A panel of judges will shortlist competitors and select an overall winner to be announced in May next year.
