11:00AM Birmingham library to be replaced and split in two

Birmingham City Council has appointed Capita Symonds to project manage the controversial £150m scheme to replace the central library.

Capita Symonds' role includes developing the business case for the project, which involves splitting the library into two locations.

The firm is to draw up the business case by March 2007. Decisions on funding are expected by the end of 2007.

The project win will be welcomed by Capita Symonds, which was part of the Legacy consortium that missed out on the sought-after role of Olympic delivery partner yesterday.
