Having read the editorial "Kitchen-sink dramas" (11 July, page 3), I would like to suggest an alternative to private contractors and direct-labour organisations: create your own commercial contracting company.

The benefits of this approach are threefold: a dependable maintenance service is secured for the housing entity; tax efficiency is maximised and the parent organisation gains a stake in a sector where profits are soaring.

Picking up on Roy Irwin's suggestion, we would be delighted to speak to anyone wishing to share in our experience of setting up such a business.
