Cablofil helps Vanderlande with its T5 baggage with customised trays for the new terminal’s conveyors.

Cablofil has supplied standard and modified wire mesh cable tray and accessories for 26 km of baggage-handling conveyors at Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 5.

Materials handling specialist Vanderlande Industries chose the product rather than conventional sheet metal cable tray because it was suitable for the flat cables and flexible busbar used throughout the system, and it was easy to accommodate tap-offs.

Cablofil offered an on-site free training course, so installation costs were kept down. The company also developed a new tray size that would fit into confined spaces in the conveyor system.

The new tray is 85 mm wide and 47 mm deep, created by taking an unfolded product and folding it differently. An adjustable lid, also custom-made, is aesthetically pleasing, as it follows curves around the baggage-handling system.
