IFSEC 2006 was judged a resounding success with early indications (pre-ABC Audit) that visitor numbers had increased again… and almost 60 per cent of next year's event had already been re-booked before the doors closed.
More than 700 exhibitors took part at the NEC, Birmingham, and many new products of interest to installers were launched (many featured in the pages of this edition).
Exhibitors were "reporting a real buzz around all areas of the show", said James Blue, event director.
"An industry's health is often judged by the success of its main event and if IFSEC is anything to go by then the security industry is clearly going from strength to strength".
The IFSEC Security Industry Awards saw the presentation of awards not only for innovative new products but, for the first time, to people whose work had been recognised by the industry.
The Security industry personality of the year award, sponsored by JVC, went to David Dickinson of the BSIA and the Security industry leadership award, sponsored by Baxall, went to Stuart Lowden from Wilson James.
Best security project or installation, sponsored by Baxall, went to Honeywell Systems Group / 2020 Vision Systems for a project for Sunderland Housing Group. The project provides an integrated security concierge system giving 24/7 security surveillance from a central control room to 23 refurbished tower blocks across the city, reducing vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
Product category winners were:
Best new access control product, sponsored by Security Installer: Nforce/Visits from Unilink Software.
Best new CCTV product, sponsored by CMP information, and overall product winner: Nettuno Senses from Cieffe SRL.
Best new intruder alarm product, sponsored by CMP Information: Eyetec IRO840T from Siemens Building technologies.
Best new IP security or communication product, sponsored by Platform: Trans VU Media from Dedicated Micros.
