Contractor also tops tables for December work, with Bowmer & Kirkland in second place for the month
Kier claimed the most work of any contractor in 2017, landing more than £2.6bn of projects over the 12-month period.
The firm scored 602 jobs last year, beating Balfour Beatty into second place, which won 332 contracts worth a touch over £2.1bn, while One Blackfriars tower builder Multiplex took third spot, claiming nine contracts worth £1.7bn.
Morgan Sindall, Willmott Dixon and Wates filled the next three spots, landing £1.5bn, £1.4bn and £1.1bn worth of work respectively. The top 10 was rounded out by VolkerWessels UK, Galliford Try, Skanska and Bowmer & Kirkland.
Kier finished the year strongly, romping into first place on the contractors’ table for all work including civils won in December, nabbing 51 contracts worth a combined £332m – which was £224m more than any other firm.
Bowmer & Kirkland was the big mover for the month, jumping from 19th spot in November to second position, while November winner Balfour Beatty fell to third.
Runner-up Bowmer & Kirkland claimed just five contracts in the last month of 2017, with a combined value of £108m. Its big-ticket projects included £27m of work extending Warner Bros film studios at Leavesden in Hertfordshire.
Third-placed Balfour Beatty was awarded £106m of work across 23 contracts.
McLaren Construction, Willmott Dixon, Galliford Try and RG Carter filled the middle rungs of the table, while spots eight, nine and 10 were filled by RG Group, Graham Johnson and Durkan.
Top spot on the table for December work excluding civils also went to Kier, with 46 contracts worth £275m followed by Bowmer & Kirkland and McLaren Construction.
