Engineering consultancy Buro Happold and careyjones architects have completed the refurbishment of Jessop Hospital for Women, now part of the University of Sheffield.
The refurbishment programme on the Grade II listed Victorian wing of the old Jessop Hospital for Women involved reinstating and repairing many of the existing features of the building, as well as some new elements.
These include a new entrance to the rear of the building and bronze cladding also to the rear. Buro Happold carried out structural repair works to the existing façade, to strengthen the existing tower structure, as well as internal alterations to open up the rooms for students and to facilitate the mechanical servicing strategy required to meet the high acoustic requirements of the music department’s teaching rooms.
