Dow Building Solutions polystyrene product achieves a band of continous insulation around a house
Expanded polystyrene insulation made by Dow Building Solutions has been used to insulate the floor of 14 homes built to Passivhaus standards in Wimbish, Essex. Designed by Parson & Whittley and built by Bramall Construction, Floormate
300-A Styrofoam insulation boards were installed below the concrete slab of the homes. This helped achieve a band of continous insulation around the house, which was necessary to meet the demanding Passivhaus standards. Dow said its product could take loads of 130kN/m2 and was moisture proof so it would continue performing outside the waterproof envelope of the building.
