Wates works with specialist waste expert Hippowaste on ‘Grants up for Grabs' initiative
Every year Wates Group hold a national community day when members of staff work on local community projects and give something back to those around them, in particular those living in the communities around projects.
Specialist waste expert Hippowaste and Wates have created an initiative called ‘Grants up for Grabs’. This scheme donates free Hippobags and collections to projects that demonstrate respect for the local community and environment.
The idea is to give something back to the local community through the transformation of an overgrown and un-used garden area. Plus, building and planting a vegetable bed and sensory garden formentally and physically disabled school pupils to enjoy.
Key findings
• Just one day out of normal day-to-day business operations can make a significant difference to projects in the local community• Helping with community projects doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.
• Companies can donate time and goods or services that they specialise in, helping to keep costs down.
