Haden Young and JS Wright & Co triumph at the Building Services Awards.

Organised by EMC and Building Services Journal, the Building Services Awards has firmly established itself as one of the biggest nights in the industry's calendar.

At this year’s event, Haden Young won the award for Major m&e Contractor of the Year, sponsored by the ECA. Another industrious 12 months saw the company prove its environmental credentials with ISO 14001, boost profits and increase its investment in training.

The contractor also became the first firm in its sector to launch an employer-led foundation degree for engineers and quantity surveyors.

J S Wright & Co walked away with the trophy for m&e contractor of the year, sponsored by Andrews Water. The award is open to firms with an annual turnover of up to £50m.

J S Wright’s profits have jumped 75% in the past three years. Judges were also impressed with the firm’s handling of the biggest project in its 118-year history. The m&e contract for the Park Plaza County Hall hotel in London was worth £4.6m, and J S Wright was able to cut Galliard Construction’s costs by 10% through value engineering.

The Building Services Awards ceremony was held at Grosvenor House Hotel. Jon Snow, television journalist and broadcaster, and honorary member of the RIBA, presented the highly sought-after trophies.
