THE BRITISH SECURITY INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION will be heavily involved at this year's IFSEC Exhibition, which runs from 8-11 May at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre (NEC). The Association will be providing end users and security companies alike with industry information, as well as hosting the ever-popular International Visitors' Lounge.

In 2006, 35 international visitors to IFSEC will be hosted by the BSIA thanks to funding secured under an arrangement agreed with UK Trade and Investment.

BSIA Seminars at the NEC

In line with previous years, the Association is organising a number of free seminars for those in attendance at IFSEC. The seminars will take place on Tuesday 9 May in the Security Installer Seminar Theatre (Hall 7), and are scheduled to focus on the new technologies and standards that have impacted on the security industry in recent times.

Subjects covered by the BSIA Seminars include the integration of biometrics, visitor management systems, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Wi-Fi - its use, abuse and identity theft - and the European Standards for intruder alarms and CCTV.

BSIA technical services director Alex Carmichael comments: "The electronics sector of the security industry has witnessed an evolution in new technology over the past few years, with the use of biometrics, Wi-Fi technology and ANPR becoming very real options for a great many end users."

Carmichael adds: "This year's seminars will highlight such new technology and its practical application by customers, as well as examining the development of a number of standards. These seminars really are an excellent opportunity for attendees to bring themselves up-to-date with the latest technological advances across the industry."

Full details on the BSIA seminars for IFSEC 2006 will be available shortly via the Association's web site at: www.bsia.co.uk

Security Guarding Village

This year's IFSEC welcomes a new section in the shape of The Security Guarding Village - an area within Hall 7 at the NEC dedicated to the work of the security guarding sector.

Paul Goggins - parliamentary under secretary of state at the Home Office - is due to officially open the Village on Monday 8 May, and is also set to tour the stands, speaking to both contractors and their clients.
