Scheme complements electrical and fire alarm installer initiatives
BSI has set up a new Kitemark scheme for emergency lighting installers. It is designed to complement the existing schemes for electrical installers and fire alarm installers.
The new scheme adopts a modular format that allows companies to apply for certification in any or all of the areas of design, installation, inspection, as well as testing and maintenance. This means that installers are free to match their certification with their own particular areas of expertise.
In order to qualify for Kitemark status, companies undergo a detailed examination by inspectors from BSI Product Services, which includes an evaluation of work carried out on site. This process is repeated annually to ensure that standards are maintained, and that licensed companies keep up to date with the latest developments in the field.
Being a Kitemark emergency lighting installer confirms that a company understands and complies fully with the requirements of the latest standards and guidelines relating to emergency lighting, including BS 5266, Parts 1, 7, 8 and 10, as well as the Kitemark scheme criteria and has the ability to consistently deliver work of the highest quality.
