Fancy perfecting your downhill technique in East Anglia?

No problem – or at least it shouldn’t be in 2008, when SnOasis, the world’s biggest indoor ski resort, is due to be completed in Suffolk.

Franklin + Andrews will provide cost consultancy for the £350m development, which will house a 100m-high, 500m-long ski slope as well as other winter sports, including Britain’s only speed skating circuit. It will also have ski lodges, a hotel, a golf course and an entertainment complex.

The developer, Onslow Suffolk, has spent around £20m on the project, which is to be considered by the local council later this year.

The British ski team has pledged to make SnOasis its headquarters, and it would be used as a training centre for the Winter Olympics. If planning permission is granted, housebuilder Persimmon has agreed to take up an option to buy the land and develop the housing element.

As part of the deal, Onslow must pay for a school, a police station, and fund two policemen and a police car for three years.

The developer claims that the scheme will provide 1,500 new jobs.
